Small Bowel Volvulus Associated with Cecal Volvulus

Abstract
Small bowel volvulus is an uncommon cause of intestinal obstruction, accounting for 2. 5 to 3 percent of latter.
It is due to malrotation or associated with mechanical derangements as hernias, bands of adhesions, inflammation and tumors.
The clinical picture is that of an acute intestinal obstruction, with a cramping abdominal pains, nausea, vomiting and a desire to defecate without the, ability to do so.
Volvulus of the cecum is a relatively uncommon condition, accounting about 10 .percent of large bowel obstructions.
It is less common than in the sigmoid, but not a rarity, its mortality is ranging 50 to 60 percent,
Cecal volvulus occurs most often in those patients with mobile cecum and someti-mes associated with obstructing lesions off the distal colon, however, in most insta-nces, such mechanical or physical factors have not been recognized.
It is most often a torsion of the ileocolic segment, usually occurs in a clockwise direction, the cecum passing laterally upward and to the left ranging from 90 degr-ees to three complete twists.
A 57 year old male patient, complaining of severe abdominal pain and distention, small bowel volvulus associated with cecal volvulus was presented with a brief review of literature.
